About Penny

Penny Steele was first elected to the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners in 1994.  She served on that board for 4 terms, 14 years.  While serving on the Hennepin County Board, she served on several joint powers boards with other metropolitan counties.  She served as Chair of the Metropolitan 911 Board, the Chair of the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District Board,Chair of the Refuse Derived Fuel Board and member of several other boards and commissions.  Commissioner Steele was instrumental in merging two boards she served on; the Metropolitan 911 Board and the 800 Megahertz Radio Board. 

Penny Steele served as Public Safety Committee Chair, Taxpayer Services Committee Chair  as well as Vice Chair for several other committees for Hennepin County.  She also served on the Joint Board Bench Committee and the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee. Steele was also co chair of the Intergovernmental Committee. 

Since her time on the County Board, Penny Steele works in the small business she started in Hennepin County.   She also directs the Senior Choir, and is Organist for the Lutheran Church of the Triune God, in Brooklyn Center, Mn. 

Penny Steele is a graduate of St. Olaf College, Northfield, Mn.  She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a major in music.
